The horizon is an earthly fact. It is the all-embracing perimeter. It always embraces the center, without which it cannot appear. It also has a power that extends to the infinitely distant plane, up to the vault of the sky. It allows part of the sky be visible; it hides the rest. In the morning and in the evening, the colors of twilight appear on the horizon, and birdsong resounds. All this reveals its essence and its power of center—like the elements are centered between the ethers and physical forces.
