The printed version of Das Goetheanum (our German edition) arrives in mailboxes in a plastic envelope. We thought: an issue of the Weekly on sustainability should not be wrapped in plastic—this generates a lot of waste and is not sustainable. Unfortunately paper envelopes cost considerably more and are not that much better, ecologically. We would prefer to dispense with the envelope altogether and print mailing addresses directly on the cover. This is possible within Switzerland, but if we want to send things abroad, the post office tells us, “not possible!” So we have a research task ahead of us as we continue our efforts not only to write about sustainability but also to fulfill it.
