Sarrians, France. The French Actéon company will be performing the play L’intervalle at the Theater Festival hosted by the Goetheanum from July 10 to 14. An interview with director Wilhelm Queyras.
What is the performance about?
The performance deals with the most diverse topics of our time and about our humanity. What is the fundamental difference between a human being and a machine? If artificial intelligence can create beauty and art, what is left for our inner life? Is a technological invention capable of feeling an impulse of will? Beauty takes us to the threshold of our soul life; it represents the reality of human relationships that touch the mystery of reincarnation. Our confrontation with technology awakens the burning question of our human spiritual roots.
What topics and questions are you researching?
The Actéon company was created to enable graduates of the Actéon theater school to take their first step into professional life. It is also about presenting to the public the fruits of an intellectual approach to acting. The aim of our research is to raise the public’s awareness of spiritual life and address current issues.
What influence does Rudolf Steiner’s Drama Course have on your work?
All my work, whether artistic or educational, is based on Steiner’s course. Its contents have stayed with me for over 30 years. My research results on the “Esoteric Construction of Characters,” a table developed from Steiner’s theses, are the basis for the acting direction of our play. The phenomenological approach can be found in all elements of the performance—stage design, music, costumes, and lighting.
