In the south of São Paulo in Brazil in the 70s, the Waldorf teacher Ute Craemer initiated a project worth imitating: Monte Azul.
Today, the project supports three favelas through education, culture, and health care, exemplifying how sustainable development cooperation can be designed. The organization began with the question: «Do you have something to give?» which was asked by the children from the favelas to Ute Craemer. This is a question with a huge impact! Together with Waldorf students from wealthier backgrounds, a project was created, and then an organization that gives many children and young people better prospects. Monte Azul also includes an outpatient clinic that works with doctors and therapists from different fields. There, the residents of the favelas and the adjacent districts are sometimes treated free of charge and cared for by various medical experts.
