Ruth Richter grew up in the southern Black Forest and attended an agricultural school and gardening apprenticeship in Switzerland. She collectively ran a biodynamic mountain farm and was pedagogically active in a Camphill village; with Jochen Bockemühl she studied Goetheanist-impulsed plant morphology and carried out research projects on transgenic plants with Johannes Wirz. Studied philosophy of science, history of science and philosophy at the universities of Bern and Basel.
